A source has told ESPN.com that free agent point guard Damon Stoudamire coming to the Celtics is looking like a less likely scenario. Apparently Danny Ainge is concerned about messing with the team’s chemistry, and Stoudamire is taking that as a sign the C’s aren’t all that interested. The whole thing really sounds like a bad romance movie: guy breaks it off with his wife to go after a new girl who had been involved with another guy only to find out she’s pretty comfortable with the relationship she is in and isn’t as into him as she might have let on. Fortunately for guy, he can still whore himself out to several other attractive females who would be happy to have him. I don’t think this plot line is ready for Lifetime, maybe late night Cinemax would be more appropriate.

Anyway, I kind of see where Ainge is coming from here. There is the whole “if it ain’t broke” thing to consider, and Stoudamire would have to be able to accept his role as a 10-12 minute per game back-up to Rajon Rondo. He’s already got a terrible history in being happy filling that kind of a role, so if there is any doubt at all that he may not gel with the current crop of guys, then why take the risk, especially when you’ve still got the best record in the conference?

I’ve heard talented guys who are potential clubhouse cancers be likened to strippers, you’d date them but you don’t want to commit to them long term. Well, Damon Stoudamire is like an old stripper who’s lost her youthful pole dancing luster and her lack of the flexibility she once had limits her to only one or two moves while she’s dancing. By that definition, you’d want to stay clear of him if you’re the Celtics, and now I’d say this plot line is definitely ready for Cinemax…

From the NBA, Yahoo’s got a recap of a NY Post article about breaking up the Nets. Personally, I would give them another shot (why not?) and maybe add somebody for a run because they should be right there. Other players that have been mentioned in rumors recently that we haven’t mentioned on the show…Sam Cassell (because the Clippers stink but still unlikely), Damon Stoudamire (or he could be bought out thus no trade required), and others the Celtics would never think of getting like Tracy McGrady or Jermaine O’Neal…

There’s still a month til the deadline and I figure we’ll know how much the Pats won by in the Super Bowl (or lost - because it could happen) before we see a new player donning Green.
